Colfax Police Department

Colfax provides professional law enforcement services through a Police Department with four full time officers and two part-time officers. The Police Department strives to provide professional law enforcement services intended to positively impact the quality of life of Colfax citizens through commitment, education, and community partnership. The mayor supervises the chief of police, who then works with the city administrator.

The Police Department has the responsibility of preserving the peace, responding to law enforcement service requests, engaging in crime prevention, protecting lives and property within its jurisdiction, and other related responsibilities. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office provides dispatch service. The Department responds to about 2,500 calls per year.

WHERE IS THE COLFAX POLICE DEPARTMENT?

The Colfax Police Department is located at 20 W Howard, Colfax Ia. 50054 in City Hall.

DOES THE COLFAX POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE A RESERVE PROGRAM?

The Colfax Police Department does have a Reserve Program. We currently have eight reserve officers. They meet once a month for training and patrol. Their duties vary from patrol, working the county fair, and special events.

DOES THE CITY OF COLFAX HAVE A CURFEW?

The curfew hours are Sunday through Thursday by 11:00pm and Friday and Saturday by 12:00am. If you have any questions feel free to ask any officer or stop in City Hall.

DOES THE COLFAX POLICE DEPARTMENT DO VEHICLE INSPECTIONS?

Currently three officers are certified to perform vehicle inspections, call the police department to set up a time with one of the officers.

CAN I OBTAIN A COPY OF AN ACCIDENT REPORT?

If the accident you were involved in was handled by the Colfax Police department, then yes stop in during business hours from 8:00am to 4:00pm and ask to see an officer.

WHERE TO PAY A PARKING TICKET?

Parking tickets can be paid at the Colfax City hall during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:00pm.
