Living in Colfax

Colfax offers the quiet life of a rural Iowa community but is also still full of character (and some characters)! We’re always looking for great individuals and families to come add to the charm of our unique small city.  Our local institutions and community volunteers are working to make Colfax a great place to live by providing attractive amenities and fun local events for the family to enjoy. The Colfax-Mingo School district has small class sizes and will offer a soon-to-be-completed $12M athletic complex to help our students achieve excellence.  Colfax has five recreational parks and a youth sports complex for families to explore.  Downtown Colfax is a short walk or drive from anywhere in the community, and features an eclectic mix of retail, dining, and services. Our downtown was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Spring City Commercial Historic District in 2018 and features a handful of architecturally significant buildings connected to Colfax’s once illustrious mineral water industries.  We have several older homes with character for a family to own and great parcels of land for future residential construction.
